About the event
Organised by London Marathon Events, The Big Half is a vibrant, inclusive half marathon with a fun, festival atmosphere. The 13.1 mile course weaves through London from Tower Bridge to the iconic Cutty Sark in Greenwich.
The New Balance Big Relay covers the same course in four legs and the Big Mile is free, family-friendly event that takes place on the same finishing stretch, ending at the Cutty Sark.
Job description
There are 3 roles available at The Big Half 2024.
Start Baggage - North
Tower Bridge, 6.30am - 10.30am
You will be responsible for sorting all the participants' bags into the right vans before they complete their 13.1-mile journey through east and south London. This role needs strong attention to detail and will involve small amounts of lifting & manual handling.
Start Baggage - South
Tower Bridge, 6.30am - 10.30am
As above, but on the south side of Tower Bridge.
Finish Baggage
National Maritime Museum Greenwich, 8am - 1pm
You'll be responsible for moving large builders' sacks of participants bags between four quadrants, where LME volunteers will then reunite participants with their bags. This role requires heavy lifting and pushing/pulling large bags.

What will I be paid? £12.82 - £14.65 per hour (dependant on experience/role), paid within 2 weeks
Other information
Is there good public transport links? Yes, but be aware it will be an early Sunday morning. Please also be aware which location you'll be working, as this differs between different roles.
Is there bike parking? Yes, on-street public cycle parking will be available at all locations.
Is there car parking? No. There is no parking provided at any location. On-street parking will be extremely limited.
Are meals provided? No, please bring breakfast / lunch with you.
Is this role open to anyone? Yes, however this is an active role where lifting may be required. If choosing a Start Baggage role, please choose the side that corresponds to which side of the river you'll be travelling from. If choosing a Finish Baggage role, please note this will involved moving large builders' sacks of across grass.
Is uniform provided? A hi-viz will be provided. Please wear comfortable shoes and black trousers/shorts. Bear in mind you'll be moving around and on your feet for most of the shift.
Do I need to bring anything with me? Please bring a water bottle with you.
Do I need to have specific experience to apply? No, customer-facing and fast-paced team working experience would ideal.
Is there training that needs to be done beforehand? All training will be provided on arrival.
Is accommodation provided? No, this is not provided.
Is travel reimbursed? Yes, we'll pay you for an additional hour (£12.82) to contribute towards travel.
